Project summary

This research project is a collaboration among four countries (Norway, Denmark, USA and China). It aims to identify conditions for children’s outdoor play and activities that promote learning and development of values, awareness, skills, and knowledge related to sustainable lifestyles and belonging to the place they live. And it aspires to provide broader, wider, and diverse perspectives for kindergarten staff, children, and their parents especially children to act locally and think/reflect globally. The examples shared will inspire meaningful sustainable practices for young children. This project is built on previous collaborations among the involved countries, where we have observed good examples. We also identify that there is a need to do further and extensive research on this topic and listen to the voices of the involved participants to provide practical recommendations for policy makers, teacher educators, researchers and interested stakeholders.
