Project summary
This research project aims to explore the experiences of non-ethnic Norwegian parents of children with intellectual disabilities, with a particular focus on the significance of the sense of community they experience with others in similar situations. We will use a qualitative method, in which individual interviews will be conducted to collect in-depth knowledge about parents’ experiences, challenges, and resources within the community. The data collected from the interviews will be analyzed using thematic analysis, inspired by the method developed by Braun and Clarke. This approach will make it possible to identify and explore key themes in the participants’ narratives and provide a deeper understanding of how the sense of community influences their everyday lives and quality of life. The findings from the study will contribute to increased knowledge about the experiences of non-ethnic Norwegian parents and can inform initiatives that support and promote an inclusive community for families with children with intellectual disabilities.
