Project summary
This project aims to explore and illuminate the experiences of parents raising children with cognitive disabilities, with a particular focus on their interactions with the support systems and public services in Denmark, Sweden, and Norway. Through in-depth individual interviews, the study seeks to understand how families navigate everyday life, the challenges they face, and how they perceive the assistance provided by health, education, and social welfare institutions. By comparing perspectives across the three countries, the project will identify both commonalities and differences in how support systems respond to families’ needs. Special attention will be given to how legal frameworks, human rights principles, and national policies shape these experiences. The study will contribute valuable insights into how public services can better support families and promote inclusion, dignity, and quality of life for children with cognitive disabilities and their caregivers.
