Project summary
In 2022, the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists launched the Canadian Model of Occupational Participation (CanMOP). The model is based on previous Canadian conceptual models but is also distinct from them. The main focus of CanMOP is participation in meaningful activities, and the model illustrates factors important to occupational therapists' understanding of activity. Purpose of CanMOP: to explore activity participation The overarching goal of using CanMOP is to understand: a. How activity is important for individuals or society b. Which factors are essential to perform activities c. How access to and opportunities for initiating and maintaining activity participation can best be achieved and sustained with the assistance of an occupational therapist d. How the interaction between participation, engagement, and activity performance is influenced by needs, relationships, and the history of the individual or society We, employees of the occupational therapy program at the University of Western Norway, Bergen, wish to collaborate on a joint research project. In this context, we have begun translating and writing a professional article on CanMOP to enrich our professional community and be relevant to students, other educational institutions, and practicing occupational therapists. Plan for the project: • Write a professional article that describes and explains the CanMOP model, including a Norwegian translation of the model following COSMIN guidelines • Collaborate with the practice field on testing the model in practice • Summarize the results from the testing in a professional article
