Project summary
This project is a professional development and research effort within the Social Education programme (vernepleien) at HVL. Its aim is to obtain a systematic overview of existing knowledge on how autism and grief can be understood and addressed in health and social care services, thereby forming the foundation for a larger study in Norway. The topic is insufficiently addressed in professional education and in practice, even though autistic individuals may express and process grief in distinct ways and may require adapted support. The project involves bachelor students, academic staff in vernepleien at HVL, colleagues at the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences (FHS), and partners from the practice field. Through teaching activities, seminars, and student assignments, participants explore existing knowledge, relevant theoretical perspectives, and practice‑based insights into grief among autistic individuals. The development and research work also includes collaboration with user organisations to ensure the project is grounded in up‑to‑date, experience‑based knowledge.
