Project summary

Teacher education in geography at the University of Kwazulu-Natal, South-Africa, Dar es Salaam University College of Education, Tanzania, and Western Norway University of Applied Sciences, Norway are collaborating in this project. The plan is to develop the project in the years to come. The project aims to strengthen critical thinking, collaboration, system understanding, sustainability- and ecological knowledge in education, both in teacher education, and in schools. Teacher education is often characterised by theoretical and disciplinary structures, while interdisciplinary problems can be hard to approach through our education programs. By doing fieldwork on selected localities by rivers and wetlands, the student groups must define environmental problems and describe interventions that may improve the situation. The students are also challenged to carry out interventions that may improve the conditions on the localities.
