Extension of funding period/employment
The decision on admission to PhD education establish the start and end dates of the agreement period in accordance with the candidate’s funding.
The agreement period will be extended automatically for all leaves granted based upon Norwegian law, the current Basic Collective Agreement or the Basic Agreement for the Civil Service, for example, sick leave, maternal-, care- and welfare leave.
If you are granted an extension of your employment period, the admission period in the PhD programme will be extended in accordance with the extension.
PhD fellows employed at HVL
The PhD programme by the PhD coordinator normally receives information from the HR department about any extensions. Further information can be found on the website about absence and extension of the fellowship period.
PhD candidates with external employer
Please note that PhD candidates with an external employer must inform the PhD programme of any extensions. Extensions must be documented. Please contact the PhD programme by the PhD coordinator.
Extensions of admission period after the end of funding
Applications for an extension of the admission period may be relevant for candidates who need an extended admission period after the research fellowship period has ended. An extended recording period provides, among other things, the extension of the user account that ensures access to information (Vestibylen), IT resources, the library and access to the research server, as well as access cards at HVL. An active candidate will be on the PhD programme's mailing list and will be able to participate in activities under the auspices of the PhD programme. Additional hours may be granted for supervision. Please note that all active PhD candidates and main supervisors must report on progress
Application for an extension of the admission period may be relevant for candidates who need an extended admission period after the research fellowship period has ended. Applications are formulated on the form “Application for extension of admission period in the PhD programme” and will be processed in accordance with “Guidelines for admission period for a PhD programme at HVL”.
It is recommended to contact the PhD coordinator or Head of programme prior to applying for an extension.
PhD candidates who have submitted the thesis should not apply for an extension of the admission period. Please contact the PhD coordinator regarding extension of the user account at HVL
