Course description for academic year 2017/2018

Contents and structure

The Norwegian subject profile of the master's in practical/aesthetic subjects and learning processes is a study of text and work with creation and presentation of text. The text concept covers oral and written texts, analogue and digital texts and fictional genres and non-fiction texts. Theory on creation and presentation of oral and written texts and theories on text reception, analysis and interpretation are key to the study. Didactic approaches to text work will be a recurring theme in issues relating to teaching of reading and writing, work with literature, oral and performing forms of expression. Didactic approaches will also be a recurring theme in the work with oral skills, reading and writing as basic skills in other subjects. The Norwegian subject's place in the school, contemporary culture and educational history and text work for the purpose of education and practice of aesthetics and critical evaluation will be key themes in the study. Creative text work will also be a theme. Text studies as a research subject, knowledge of international research of text, theory and methods linked to text research will also be key.

 

The following themes will be emphasised:

  • Text theory: oral and written text in different genres and media
  • Theories on text approaches: aesthetic theories, rhetoric theory, directions within analysis, text interpretation and text understanding
  • Theory on and work with text creation, text presentation and dramaturgy
  • Basic didactic issues and didactic approaches to work with text

Learning Outcome

Knowledge:

The candidate has

  • advanced knowledge of oral and written text types, traditional and contemporary, genres, media, argumentation, language instruments and multimodal expressions
  • specialised knowledge of literature theory with an emphasis on multimodal and performing forms of expression
  • in-depth knowledge of text analysis, text creation, text presentation and dramaturgy

 

Skills

The candidate can

  • critically analyse and interpret written and oral texts with different forms of expression
  • create, communicate and present oral and written text in an independent manner
  • facilitate, supervise and evaluate pupils' creation, communication and presentation of text in an independent manner

 

General competence

The candidate can

  • plan and lead work with writing processes, oral communication and presentation
  • be a resource in academic context in issues relating to text knowledge
  • contribute to innovation in innovative processes in the Norwegian subject

Teaching methods

The working methods in the course of study may include lectures, group discussions, seminars, project-organised learning work and different forms of individual work with supervision and use of internet-based resources. Writing of fiction texts and communication and presentation of oral texts may be included in the study.

Compulsory learning activities

The year plan/semester plan provides detailed information about study requirements that must be met in order to be assessed in the subject. This may include:

  • participation in lectures, seminars and meetings and group discussions at the place of study and on the internet
  • submission of texts and assignments, reports and reflection notes and presentation and communication of oral texts
  • Participation in project work, presentations and supervision
