LEI104 Cadastral law and process

Course description for academic year 2018/2019

Contents and structure

The course is a practical orientated course in carrying out a cadastral survey, where fieldwork is a central part of the course. In combination with lectures, the students will be given an understanding of the land subdivision system in Norway.

The course gives a thorough introduction to the cadastral law and land subdivision process based on student's group work in cooperation  with one or more municipalities. The students carry out  preparation and notification for a cadastral survey, boundary demarcation, as well as documentation for recording of new boundaries in the cadastre. The fieldwork is carried out integrated  with the course LEI105 Cadastral Surveying.

  • knowledge of the legal effects of cadastral surveying

  • to carry out a cadastral survey and the necessary documentation of the survey
  • elaborate the effects of a cadastral survey

  • Have an understanding of the land subdivision process and private and public law effects of cadastral surveying

Lectures and field work by preparation and implementation of cadastral surveys

Compulsory learning activities

1 mandatory admission must be approved to take the exam.

Approved mandatory work requirements are valid for 3 consecutive semesters.

Assessment

The exam consists of two parts:

  • Project assignment (40% of final grade). The assignment is valid for 3 semesters after the regular exam
  • Oral exam (60% of final grade)

Grade scale A-F where F is not passed.

Both parts must be passed to get a grade on the subject.
