NAB1020 Basic Safety Training for Seamen

Contents and structure

Basic safety training for seamen. This course is mandatory for all personnel working onboard vessels. This course does not give any ECTS credit points, but it is offered to students who will complete their bechelor in maritime studies and later achieve certification as deck officers.

Practical information:

The course is delivered by a external service provider.

The course is only offered once to each student. If you, without a valid reason, fail to finish the course you are registred for, the School will not be responsible for giving you a new course.

Learning Outcome

- Knowledge:

The students should be able to account for how to survive at sea if emergency situations have led to abandoning the vessel, elementary first aid and social and environmental responsibilities.

- Skills:

The students should be able to carry out preventive measures minimizing risk of fire, and have insight in how fire fighting is carried out in an emergency organization. They should be capable of reacting and acting correct in case of accidents or medical emergencies.

- General Qualifications:

This course meets the requirements found in STCW tables A-VI/1-1, A-VI/1-2, A-VI/1-3 and A-VI/1-4.

Entry requirements

To be offered a place the students must have produced at least 10 sp in the study programme.

100% attendance throughout the course (totally 50 hrs).

Written exam, 1 hr
