Course description for academic year 2019/2020

Contents and structure

The course is set within the framework of Norwegian/Scandinavian political, social, and cultural institutions.  The overall goal of the course is to provide international students with knowledge and understanding about central themes of doing business in what can be termed a Scandinavian manner.

Learning Outcome

Knowledge

The student:

  • Is able to recognize institutional, cultural, economic, social and political aspects of doing business in Norway as well as the broader Scandinavian context.
  • Has gained insight into the largest Norwegian industries such as the petro-maritime sector and other significant business sectors.

Skills

The student:

  • Is able to understand and analyze different aspects of doing business in Norway and Scandinavia.
  • Is able to navigate, as well as critically discuss, the subtleties of Norwegian/Scandinavian cultures and businesses.

General competence

The student:

  • Has gained on overview of the political, economic, social, and cultural framework around doing business in Scandinavia including f.ex. the Nordic Model, sustainability, "happiness", gender, and equality.

Teaching methods

Lectures with discussions; individual course papers including oral presentations; excursions. 

Compulsory learning activities

Yes, two individual course papers including oral presentations.

Assessment

Homeexam 14 days 100%.  Grading scale:  A - F.
