ELE130 Network Security

Course description for academic year 2021/2022

Contents and structure

The course covers classic cryptography introduction, symmetric and asymmetric encryption, message confidentiality and authentications; network security applications: key distribution and management; user authentication; digital signature; network access control; transport-level security; IP security; wireless network security; malicious software.

Knowledge

The candidate can assess security threats/attacks in a given computer network.

 

Skills

The candidate can use various security methodologies to protect a network from threats/attacks.

 

General competence:

The candidate understands information security from theories, can correctly analyze security issues and have problem-solving skills within this field.

Entry requirements

None

Recommended previous knowledge

Basic network knowledge, or ELE 118 Networking Technology, or equivalent courses.

Teaching methods

Lectures, laboratory, self-study.

Compulsory learning activities

6 approved laboratory assignments.

Valid mandatory assignments will be valid in the following 3 semesters.

Assessment

4 hours written exam will be held on the digital exam system. Students must bring their PC. The software must be installed and tested before the exam day.

If fewer than 5 students are registered, oral exams may be given.

The grading scale used is A to F. Grade A is the highest passing grade in the grading scale, grade F is a fail.
