ELE204 Control Systems Engineering 1

Course description for academic year 2021/2022

Contents and structure

The course covers basic principles of modeling, simulation, analysis and design of Single-Input-Single-Output (SISO) control systems.

The course contains electro technology, mechanics, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics and electromagnetism from classical physics together with calculus, linear systems and stability from mathematics so that to form a scientific foundation for working with automatic systems in technological courses.

The course gives an introduction on modeling and design of classical SISO control systems by using PID and lag-lead control with the most used industrial processes..

Learning Outcome

Knowledge

At the end of the course the candidate has knowledge

  • of the mathematical description, analysis and design of dynamic processes and systems.
  • of the application of sensors, actuators and measurement systems to implement negativ feedback systems and stability analysis.
  • of how requirements such as transient response and steady-state error can be used to design control systems by using a controller.

Skills

At the end of the course, the candidate can

  • apply physical principles of mechanics, fluid mechanics and thermodynamics in analysis of dynamical sytems.
  • master basic control theory and the use of relevant instruments in experimental work so that to tune controller parametrs as required by system specifications..
  • work in a structured and targeted manner both alone and within team environment.

Competence

  • The candidate can communicate basic information related to theories, issues and solutions in physics and classical control theory (applied to SISO feedback systems).
  • The candidate¿ understands the role of the engineer within the technological development in society.
