Course description for academic year 2021/2022

Contents and structure

The course discusses central themes related to leading change in theory and practice, particularly addressing the role of middle managers in organizational change processes.

Central themes are:

Organizations as arenas for change.

Leading change as a task and as a challenge.

Organizational change processes - from plan to practice.

The role as middle manager and change agent.

Leading change in organizations as an implementation challenge.

Learning Outcome

Knowledge:

After completing the course, the student can account for:

Leading change in organizations as a task and a challenge.

He/ she can translate theoretical knowledge related to leading change in organizations to reflective practical knowledge.

He/she has knowledge of challenges related to acting as middle manager and as a change agent.

He/she has a particular understanding of leading change in organizations as implementation challenge.

Skills:

After completing the course, the student can apply the acquired theoretical knowledge on practical problems and challenges related to the leadership of changes in organizations.

Can implement changes within practical organizational contexts in reflective ways.

General competencies:

After completing the course, the student is capable of handling organizational changes and implementation processes in a skilled and reflective way, while at the same time exercising ethical behaviour as an actor during the processes.

Assessment

Written home exam 48 hours. Rating scale A-F.
