PL471 Cultural Heritage Management
Course description for academic year 2021/2022
Contents and structure
The historical development of cultural landscapes in Norway (including agrarian history and archaeology). Presentation of different cultural monuments related to religion, communication/transport, hunting, defence etc. and also building tradition history.
Learning Outcome
The student shall:
- have basic knowledge about immovable cultural monuments and movable cultural heritage in Norway as basis for management.
- have knowledge about development in Norwegian building traditions.
- have knowledge about cultural influence in landscapes, and the historical development of the cultural landscape.
- know the basis of management of Norwegian cultural heritage.
- have knowlegde of important cultural heritage databases.
The student shall:
- be able to detect archaeological and architectural monuments and sites automatically protected by law.
- be able to use databases to find information about registered archaeological and architectural monuments and sites.
- be able to do basic management of cultural heritage protected by law or other measures.
The student should:
- have the ability to solve relevant questions in this field of expertice.
- have the ability to disseminate central information from this field of expertice, both written and oral.

Teaching methods
Lectures, excursions and term paper with oral presentation.
Compulsory learning activities
The students must write and present a case-study.
Assessment
Written examination under supervision, 4 hours.
Grading: A-F.
