ELE213 Instrumentation

Course description for academic year 2021/2022

Contents and structure

The subject introduces measurement systems in general, and introduces systems where instrumentation plays an important role. The subject consists of seven modules of different weight, i.e. system overview, sensor techniques, actuators, signal processing, signal transmission, fieldbuses and electronic safety.

  • System overview
    • The module aims to give an understanding of systems where measurements are central, such as sequential and linear regulation systems. System reliability and symbols in system diagrams are covered.
  • Sensors techniques
    • The module covers different techniques for measuring most quantities within the SI-systems base quantities and derived quantities.
  • Actuators
    • The module covers different techniques for manipulating system behaviour.
  • Signal processing
    • The module covers techniques for preparing measures signals for the next step in a process. It also covers techniques for improving signal quality.
  • Signal transmission
    • This module covers basic techniques for the transfer of electrical signals in an industrial perspective.
  • Fieldbuses
    • This module discuss communication between different electronic elements in an industrial network structure.
  • Safety
    • This module covers techniques for protecting electronic equipment from electrical and mechanical stress, as well as the use of instrumentation to establish processes less prone to hazards.

Practical work is a central part of the course
