HO2-301 Senior Design Project

Course description for academic year 2021/2022

Contents and structure

The students (in groups of 2 or 3) will work on a project to solve a practical or theoretical engineering problem for the industry, or others.

A typical project will include: Project planning, budget and cost analysis, literature studies and research, design and construction of prototype (where applicable), verification of results, documentation

Learning Outcome

Knowledge

  • Can apply new knowledge within a self-chosen part of subject area.
  • Has broad knowledge of key topics within the field of study.
  • Has an understanding of methodological work, ability to reflect and ability to systematic and  scientific assessment.
  • Has gained a better understanding of processes and methods used in business and government. 

 

Skills:

  • Can prepare a specific issue of societal interest within the subject area, under guidance.
  • Can identify, select and evaluate literature that is relevant to the problem, under guidance.
  • Have skills in going in depth on limited issues and prepare concrete solution alternatives to the problem.
  • Has skills in documenting and communicating the results from the project work in a systematic and scientific way.

Competence:

  • Has insight into scientific honesty and understanding of ethical issues that are relevant to the issue.
  • Has an awareness of the consequences of the problem and the work for individuals, companies and society.
  • Has the competence to plan and carry out an independent task, formulate problems and analyze these on the basis of both theoretical and empirical material and to carry out a task in a methodically satisfactory manner.
  • Can present results in writing and orally.

Project work with guidance

Compulsory learning activities

Project description, preliminary project report, midterm oral presentation and poster.

Assessment

Based on final report and oral presentation. Grades A to F.
