Course description for academic year 2023/2024

Contents and structure

This course helps the students broadening their scope on art activities in multiple ways: The course explores how different artistic positions in situated settings within the society can lift awareness of human rights and social justice. Students learn to work co-creatively and collaboratively and be able to develop and lead projects through real world projects. They learn to apply Experience Design to both displayed artwork and to art workshops. The work of setting up own businesses and developing marketing material and marketing activities for art activities. Themes are explored in real world settings as far as possible. The student learns to capture art and workshop processes and keeps developing their digital portfolio / professional online identity.

  • The socially conscious artist / social entrepreneurship
  • Experience Design
  • Leadership in participant-creative activities
  • Collaborative Projects
  • Project development and project management
  • Entrepreneurship (towards both performative art activities and art activities with a social aim)
  • Marketing material and activities
  • Digital documentation of performative, social and collaborative processes and projects
  • Continuing development of digital portfolio / professional online identity

Students must have a smart phone or equipment for video and photo captivation at their disposal for documentation purposes.

Assignments from this course will be carried out in real life settings in the course "Community Arts -Professional Training 2" and experiences and observations from professional training will be linked back to the current course.

The student 

  • Has knowledge of leadership theories in participant-creative activities
  • Has knowledge of underpinning foundations of the socially conscious artist

  • Has knowledge of establishing a company
  • Has knowledge of marketing terminology
  • Has knowledge of funding opportunities for different types of art projects

Skills

The student

  • Can collaborate with other artists in a professional way and displays knowledge of creativity and group psychology in practical project work
  • Can lead art activities in a way that enables participants to experience personal growth, empowerment and to belong to a community
  • Can find partners with mutual interests and build projects around that
  • Can make and present a business plan
  • Is able to produce marketing material for a project or business
  • Can write funding applications and reports after a finished community/art project
  • Is able to develop, plan, deliver and evaluate projects
  • Is able to incorporate experience design in art / community activities with participants
  • Is able to capture and document digitally performative, social and collaborative processes and projects
  • Is able to extend the professional online identity

General competence

The student

  • Can understand and produce own digital content
  • Can relate general theoretical knowledge to experiences and observations from individual and collaborative processes / field work / placements

Teaching methods

Lectures, workshops and seminars online (synchronic and asynchronic), individual work, group projects.

Compulsory learning activities

  • Active participation is expected and compulsory attendance is a requirement for parts of this course, which parts this is will be presented in the plan for each semester.
  • Assignments mentioned in the semester plan (made available at semester start).

Assessment

Portfolio assessment.

Grading scale: A - F.
