Course description for academic year 2023/2024

Contents and structure

In this course the understanding of the ‘situated community’ is deepened and this knowledge is used for high quality interactions in that particular community. Power relations as the artist comes into a community are discussed and explored. An interdisciplinary online community art project is developed and delivered. And the final professional online identity is put together from all material generated inside and outside the program during the three years - and delivered.

  • Design Thinking
  • The artist in artist-teacher collaborations
  • Interdisciplinary art philosophy and ethics
  • Interdisciplinary online community art project 
  • Research methods relevant for Community Arts
  • Deliver digital portfolio / professional online identity

Students must have smart phone or equipment for video and photo captivation at their disposal for documentation purposes.

Tasks from this course will be carried out in the course "Community Arts Professional Training 3" and experiences and observations from professional training will be linked back to the current course.

Skills

The student

  • Can use information gathered through community profiling and design thinking processes to design art activities / events and interventions
  • Can collaborate interdisciplinary and produce interdisciplinary online community art
  • Can use technology and digital tools to enhance art activities and expression as well as introducing and using technology as a vital part of inclusive arts activities in different contexts
  • Can document and communicate his/her own research and innovation processes and practices publicly and to peers
  • Can present digital portfolio as a professional online portfolio and reflect upon own development and achievements

General competence

The student

  • Has developed a theoretical and critical understanding of the ways in which meaning pertains in the Arts, and how it impacts participants in arts practices in different contexts.
  • Has developed knowledge about the rights and potentials of every human being to take part in arts activities.
  • Can inspire artistic and social entrepreneurship in a modern and multi-cultural society Can reflect critically on his/her own work generally and specifically as a community artist and that of others
  • Can relate general theoretical knowledge to experiences and observations from field work / placements and own learning processes

Teaching methods

Lectures, workshops and seminars online (synchronic and asynchronic), individual work, group work, student presentations.

Compulsory learning activities

  • Active participation is expected and compulsory attendance is a requirement for parts of this course, which parts this is will be presented in the plan for each semester.
  • Assignments mentioned in the semester plan (made available at semester start).

Assessment

Portfolio.

Grading scale: A - F.
