PL462 Nature restoration

Course description for academic year 2024/2025

Contents and structure

This course deal with restoration of nature, with main focus on the semi-natural nature-types, as well as an introducton to important principles for management and public measures to take care of valuable cultural landscapes. The course start out with an introduction to the main principles of nature restoration. The students get an overview of the different semi-natural nature types, regional variation, and methods for restoration and managment. The students also acquire knowledge in how to utilize the values from the cultural landscape in land-use planning and design of new green areas.

Learning Outcome

Knowledge

The student shall

have knowlege about the main principles of nature restoration

have knowledge about the variation in semi-natural nature types created through traditional farming activity

have knowledge about methods for management and restoration of semi-natural nature types.

have knowledge about management and measures to take care of valuable cultural landscape

Skills

The student shall

be able to recognize different semi-natural nature types, and know management metods to maintain these

be able to understand and assess management- and restoration plans for cultural landscapes.

General competence

The student shall

have an understanding for the values in the traditional cultural landscape, and why it is important to take care of or restore the semi-natural nature types.

be able to utilize the values in the cultural landscape in spatial planning

Written examination under supervision, 4 hours.
