Course description for academic year 2024/2025

Contents and structure

The subject covers the most common components and measurements found in process monitoring and control.

Contents

  • Introduction to the content of measurement systems in industrial processes, including process control and data acquisition
  • P&ID (Piping and Instrumentation Diagram) with the relations between measurements and process equipment such as pumps and valves
  • An overview of common processes and their corresponding measurements and instruments, such as pressure, temperature, flow and level (plus instrument functionality)
  • Explosion safety and reliability

Knowledge

The student has an overview of industrial control and supervision.

Skills

The student is able to participate in the selection of instrumentation solutions for an industrial process.

General qualifications

The student is able to participate in planning, commissioning and operation of an industrial instrumentation system

ELE141 - Electrical and Electronic Fundamentals 1 and ELE142 - Electrical and Electronic Fundamentals 2 (alternatively ELE143 - Electrical and Electronic Fundamentals) or similar
