MOØ236 Internship - Innovation and Management in an African Context

Course description for academic year 2024/2025

Contents and structure

The aim of the course is to educate change agents for better global innovation management with an internship in South Africa as the primary teaching platform. The primary activity is an internship in a local organisation, supplemented by academic seminars and reflection sessions.

Learning Outcome

This course will provide the following outcomes to the candidates:

KNOWLEDGE

The candidate

  • Has broad knowledge about theories, methods, models and tools on leadership, management, complex organisation for social innovation or sustainable business management and innovation.
  • Has broad knowledge about challenges, pathways, and dilemmas for social innovation and sustainable business management and innovation in Africa.
  • Has broad knowledge about central discourses, policies, resource allocation, regulations, and relevant SDG goals.

SKILLS

The candidate

  • Can reflect on concepts of entrepreneurship, innovation, organisation, technology, complexity, discourse, leadership, and management.
  • Can reflect on own internship experiences related to entrepreneurship, innovation, organisation, technology, complexity, discourse, leadership, and management.
  • Can give advice for improvement in own internship organisation

  • Understands relevant socio-economic contexts for own internship organisation.
  • Understands relevant opportunities for own internship organisation or a given case in Africa.
