NAB1031 Maritime Cyber Risk Management

Contents and structure

The course aims to provide a theoretical foundation to understand the cyber risks associated with maritime IT systems and the negative consequences for operations. It also examines and explains the nature of the threats being faced, and explores how they can be understood and mitigated.

Learning Outcome

Knowledge: Understand the basic concepts of cybersecurity and risk management.

Skills: Analyse the potential operational and safety impacts of a cyber incident on maritime operations.

General competance: Select appropriate mitigation controls to address identified risks.

Teaching methods

The course is fully online, using pre-recorded videos, written content, and industry resources. The learning outcomes (understanding cybersecurity basics, identifying maritime risks, and understanding risk management) are assessed through a series of quizzes, one at the end of each module, which must be passed to unlock the next module. Student-active learning is central, as the course is self-paced.
