Serious incident reporting

Reporting is to report a violation of:

  • Laws and regulations
  • Ethical norms
  • Serious practices that can harm HVL or society

We also you to let us know if you encounter:

  • Bullying and harassment
  • Environmental crime
  • Financial crimes like corruption or financial infidelity
  • Violation of professional and research ethics guidelines
  • Practices that may represent a danger to life and health
  • Activities that may damage property or infrastructure

There will always be different opinions when it comes to making decisions, whether it is about budget distribution, appointments, professional priorities or decisions based on law and regulations. Expressing such disagreement is not counted as reporting.

What happens when you report something?

When HVL receives a report or a note of concern, it is assigned to a responsible manager. We get in touch with the person(s) who sent in the report to get an in-depth account of what has happened. We also get in touch with the person(s) who may be responsible for what has happened, to hear their side of the story.

HVL may respond to employees and students who we believe may have violated regulations or behaved in an unacceptable manner. The Universities and University Colleges Act and Civil Servants Act (for employees) set the framework for what this response may be.

How can you report something?

You can submit a report in writing or by mouth to the department/subject/unit to which you belong, or straight to HVL management.

You can report something by emailing varsling@hvl.no.
