Rehearsing Teaching in Teacher Education - Digital Research Conference

Welcome to the ReTPro digital conference - October 18th, 2023.

Join the conference

Registration deadline was September 15th.

We ask: How can we develop and establish a practice-based framework in teacher education (TE) where student teachers can evolve teaching repertoires and improvisational skills through systematic rehearsals and reflection?

In this digital conference, we will focus on and discuss the relationship between rehearsal and improvisation in the education of new teachers.

The conference aims to gather teacher educators and preservice teachers who are concerned with quality development in teacher education, especially linked to the relationship between the practical and theoretical part of the education. The conference will be particularly oriented towards the subjects of mathematics and English didactics but will also have high relevance for other subject areas. We wish to facilitate an open and critical discussion about the relationship between instrumentality in teaching (understood as rehearsals) and "the beautiful risk of education" (understood as improvisation), in teacher education.

The digital conference is organized by Western Norway University of Applied Sciences and the research project Rehearsing Teaching Professionally (ReTPro). The researchers in ReTPro are Vigdis Vangsnes, Knut Steinar Engelsen, Gry Tuset, Sissel Høisæter, Michel Cabot, Hege Myklebust, Sigrid Haukanes and Linda Fylkesnes.

    • example from own TE practice where modelling/rehearsing is included
    • an idea for how modelling/rehearsing can be integrated into TE
    • an interesting theoretical basis for modelling/rehearsing which can contribute to the operationalization of the phenomenon
    • a set of goals you wish to achieve when working with modelling/rehearsing in TE
  • In subject-oriented working groups (workshops), there will be opportunities to give short presentations of the contribution (10 min).

Based on the keynote presentations at the conference and your contributions, we see the conference as an opportunity to thematize a basis for an anthology, with contributions also from the participants.
