PSYK6202 Organization of Services for People with Mental Illness

Course description for academic year 2018/2019

Contents and structure

The course centers on knowledge of how society, through public, private and voluntary support systems, meet people with mental illnesses, and how the mental health services can be organised in the future. Interdisciplinary cooperation in order to promote health and processes of improvement is central to the course. Furthermore, the course will focus on the background and consequences of the decentralisation of the services, emphasising the user's cooperation and coping. 

Learning Outcome

  • has comprehensive knowledge of conditions that enhance the processes of improvement of the mentally ill
  • has comprehensive knowledge of central guidelines and the legislation that regulate work with people with mental illnesses
  • has comprehensive knowledge of the structure and organisation of the mental health services

  • is able to identify conditions that enhance coping and empowerment
  • is able to analyse and critically assess models for health promotion, care and interaction
  • is able to identify necessary measures that promote mental health on both individual and group level

  • is able to analyse and assess the framework conditions for mental health work on different levels
