Course description for academic year 2018/2019
Contents and structure
In this subject the student will gain insight into guidance, counselling, cooperation and innovation within the area of special education. The course will be based on a systematic approach to the subject area that also includes the perspective of the individual. The subject will illuminate professional practice, the development of professional identity and participation in the professional learning community in a learning organisation.
The purpose of the study is that through in-depth academic and research work the student will acquire insight into theoretical and practical issues. Guidance as learning activity will be consistent across all subjects. The course will give the students a professional support, so that at their workplace they can contribute with knowledge on guidance and innovation when it comes to the special education work. The kindergarten teacher and teacher as researcher and innovator will play central roles in the course.
Learning Outcome
The student:
- Has knowledge of counselling and guidance theory, strategies and methods
- Has knowledge of innovation and change work in the kindergarten and school
- Has knowledge of the kindergarten and school as learning organisations
- Has knowledge of different collaborating entities
- Has knowledge of action learning and action research as methods
The student:
- Can take responsibility for planning, implementing and assessing special education schemes and provide advice and guidance to colleagues and parents
- Can select method and strategy in a guidance situation and give grounds for the selection based on theory
- Can guide and be active in innovation work at own workplace
- Can cooperate with different entities internally and externally
The student:
- Can reflect on ethical dilemmas and own academic execution and adjust it in the light of new research
- Can exchange opinions and share experiences to contribute to innovative thinking and development of
- good practice
- Can critically reflect on guidance and counselling towards innovation and renewal of the kindergarten's and school's activities

Recommended previous knowledge
The student must have completed 2 of the 3 following special education subjects:
A - SPES115,
B - SPES215/EVL-SPED215/EVL-SPES215
or C EVL-SPED315 EVL-SPES315
Teaching methods
Lectures, discussions, debates and reflection. Written and oral work individually and in groups.

*80% mandatory attendance
*Mandatory study assignments, which are specified in the semester plan

1. R&D assignment in groups: 40%. All aids permitted
2. Oral exam : 60%. None
