Contents and structure

UPED852 consists of several elective subject-didactic modules related to the development of teaching in higher education. The scope of the modules is 1, 2, or 3 ECTS credits. The modules provide an in-depth study of topics that can be linked to the introductory course UPED851. You assemble the course yourself by selecting modules that together amount to 5 ECTS credits. The modules are intended for participants in the university pedagogy study program, employees at HVL, and external participants. The instructors for the modules include faculty members at HVL, university pedagogy lecturers, and external contributors.

For those who need to document their educational competence, it is recommended to choose the module related to writing a teaching portfolio. In this module, participants receive guidance on developing a teaching portfolio, which is part of the application for promotion to associate professor and professor.

The subject-didactic modules are made available for registration continuously throughout the academic year.

Teaching methods

Student activities, discussions, lectures, group work, self-study, peer guidance, digital learning resources, online learning activities and physical and online gatherings.

Compulsory learning activities

UPED852 consists of several elective subject-didactic modules. The scope of the modules is 1, 2, or 3 ECTS credits. There are various mandatory learning activities in the different modules. To complete the course, you must have approved mandatory learning activities and participation in modules totaling 5 ECTS credits.

Assessment

To document UPED852, you must have completed subject-specific didactic modules equivalent to 5 ECTS credits and have fulfilled the required assignments in the modules you have taken. In addition, you must prepare a text or a digital product (for example, a video, podcast, or poster) in which you reflect on your academic and pedagogical development through the elective modules you have completed. The purpose is to demonstrate how perspectives from the modules can be linked to the development of research-based teaching. The assignment can be included as part of your teaching portfolio.

A written text of 800-1000 words or an equivalent multimodal product.

Content

The reflection should be based on experiences from the modules you have attended and can be organized around these points:

  • Which modules have you attended?
  • Which ideas, concepts, or practices from the modules have been most relevant to you?
  • How can these be linked to the development of your own role as a teacher?
  • What do you wish to explore further as part of your professional development?

Assessment criteria

For the assignment to be approved, it must clearly state which modules you have attended, which ideas and concepts are most relevant to you, and how these can be connected to the development of teaching and learning practices.

The assignment is submitted in Wiseflow. Assessed as pass / fail
