Open lecture: Teaching and Learning in the Age of Artificial Intelligence. Why Educational Systems, Education, and Teachers Must Change
This lecture explores the transformative impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on education, from early childhood through higher education. It examines how AI reshapes knowledge production, learning environments, and pedagogical practices, highlighting why educational systems, teacher education, and classroom practices must evolve. Participants will engage with the concepts of AI literacy, ethical and responsible AI use, and the role of educators as mentors and designers of AI-supported learning.

Blaženka Filipan-Žignić, PhD, is a Full Professor and the current Dean of the Faculty of Teacher Education at the University of Zagreb, Croatia. She earned her undergraduate degree and completed her doctoral dissertation in the field of the humanities at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and later obtained a master’s degree in educational marketing from the Faculty of Economics, University of Zagreb.
Professor Filipan-Žignić has fifteen years of experience in various managerial and leadership positions at the Faculty of Teacher Education. She teaches at the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels, working within both the Early Childhood Education and Teacher Education study programmes.
She is the author of numerous scholarly publications, including monographs in linguistics, applied linguistics, and education. She has participated in multiple national and international research projects and has presented her research at more than eighty academic conferences, predominantly international. In recent years, her research interests have focused on the language of new media, media literacy, and new media in education.
