Prosjektsamandrag

This proposed project will investigate the management of change in academic libraries in Norway, with a particular emphasis on how different stakeholder groups within the library can collectively develop and adapt services, strategies, procedures and values in the face of such organisational change. These issues will be researched using innovative methods that have not before been applied in the study of academic libraries. The proposed project therefore seeks to address the following issues:

- identifying key issues (challenges, problems, critical success factors) in library change management procedures;

- exploring how organisational and professional development can be enhanced in the face of organisational change;

- enacting and evaluating new procedures for professional development and the understanding and management of change;

- creating networks for professional development and research across Norwegian academic libraries;

- improving the 'capital' (Bourdieu 1988) of library staff outside the library.

The project is informed by the goals of "Bibliotekreform 2014, Del I strategier og tiltak" (p.36-39). It aims to contribute to evidence-based professional development of library staff. Further, the collaborative development of data analysis in the project methodology and the emphasis on dissemination of project findings will contribute to the sharing of knowledge and best practice throughout the higher education library sector.
