The first part of the session gives a brief introduction to some important terms: artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, generative AI, Large Language Models (LLMs). Furthermore, it explores the issue of copyright (and LLMs) and presents a (non-exhaustive) overview of (recommended) AI tools (at HVL).

The main part provides an introduction to artificial intelligence in the research process. How can AI potentially be used in different steps of the research process? Which opportunities and challenges does AI present for researchers? If you use ChatGPT when writing a journal article, should the AI tool be listed as author? What are the AI policies of different journals and publishers?

The final part shows you where to find HVL’s institutional guidelines for the use of AI.

This session is part of HVL library talks spring 2026, a series of talks and lectures offered by the library's Unit for research support.

No registration needed, welcome!
