The Port of Bergen is one of Norway’s most important maritime hubs and a gateway to the North Atlantic region. One of the most important missions of the Port of Bergen is to ensure that it is sustainably operated. A strategic amibtion is to be among Europe’s most innovative and environmentally responsible ports.
The Port of Bergen has developed an Environmental Port Index (EPI) that differentiates which is a system for calculating environmentally differentiated port fees based on ships' emissions while in port. By rewarding the ships with the lowest emissions and thus the lowest environmental impact, the goal is to attract precisely these ships.
